Make

December 7th, 2010

While our thoughts might remain private unless we choose to share them, what we make is often out there, maybe not for the whole world to see, but certainly for some to see. It’s what we make of our lives that others often know us by.

I make lots of things. I made lunch, and last night I made dinner. I just made a cup of tea and I’m drinking it while writing this post. I make photographs. I made a shopping list, and then forgot to take it with me. I made another list of all the things I should be doing. I made a mistake. I made a fool of myself. I made the bed. I made a mental note. I made a card. I made love. I made up a story. I made a cake. I made a friend. I made a difference. I made up a game. I made a gin and tonic. Okay, I made two gin and tonics. I made myself go to the gym. I made a call.

And that’s all in the last week.

Is there something I want to make, but I need to clear some time for it? Hmmm…it’s not time I need. It’s other people. I don’t want to make things alone. I already do that, and enjoy it – mostly. What I want to make with others is, as yet, unknown. That’s part of the adventure of making stuff with other people.

I’m taking part, with 2000+ others, in a 31-day blogging challenge called #reverb10 to reflect on the past year and explore hopes for the coming year. You can read more about it here. Day 6 prompt: Make. What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?
